Sometimes the simplest of things are truly the best.
This month’s recipe redux is a true tribute to a simple {and, therefore, easy} recipe. We were asked to share a recipe with only 7 ingredients, which surprisingly can be harder to do than you’d initially think,-but I have one of my all time favorites for you!
I am a huge fan of smoked salmon. And avocados. Both are great sources of unsaturated fats {those plant-based fats that are great for your heart}! Add them together and I’m loving this gourmet toast for breakfast for it’s simple ingredients, great taste, and nutritional quality.
It has whole grains from the toast, heart-healthy fats from both the avocado and salmon, and protein from the salmon and cream cheese! It’s a great alternative to your typical breakfast but can even be served at a shower, party, or holiday menu!
My New York heritage is showing through in this recipe as I used {whipped} cream cheese, but light ricotta could be substituted or omitted altogether- simply spreading the avocado in place of the preferred cheese would be a great alternative!
Smoked salmon is pretty high in sodium, so leftover baked salmon would make a great swap for someone needing to be mindful of the salt content and the capers could be omitted as well {substitute with dill, if desired}.
Any type of whole grain bread could be used; gluten free, 100% whole wheat bagel thin or English muffin, or the sprouted Eizekel bread I used here.
If you wanted to add more than 7 ingredients, thinly sliced cucumbers would add a fresh, crispness and some seasonal lightly grilled asparagus would be a nice addition. But in the meantime, these are the 7 ingredients that I chose since they are my favorite flavor combinations.
7 ingredient smoked salmon toast
makes: 1 serving
Ingredients:
1 slice whole grain bread
1 heaping tablespoon whipped cream cheese
2 ounces smoked salmon
1/4 avocado, sliced
1/2 tsp capers
1/2 tablespoon red onion
freshly ground black pepper
Directions:
Toast the bread and spread it with the cream cheese while it’s still warm. Layer on the smoked salmon, avocado slices, capers, red onions, and black pepper.
I love a good simple recipe. This is hardly a recipe but it shows my recommendations for macronutrients as a breakfast option.
It’s a perfect gourmet breakfast! Perfect time for Spring!
Salud!

I love salmon in any way, shape, or form, but especially smoked…on crusty bread. And added avocado never hurt anything 🙂
